I look for a good script! A good engaging story, a tightly written screenplay with apt/right dialogues, where there’s room to play and improvise! A good script is the start!
The moment you read a story you have made your own opinion and your own imagination had left its mark on that story! That’s the first impression. You have already started internalizing right away while reading the story. Rest is a process.
As complicated as any other art form. As simple as any work of love.
Ah! That’s a loaded question. There’s been so many…
Discovering stage for the first time.
Reading Soze-watan by Prem chand the first time.
My first play.
The list is endless…
I’d say my parents. Also my grandparents. I grew up in a huge joint family with many uncles and aunts and cousins. I can’t even begin to describe that world.
Yes, I do. I am a big fan of Hindi Literature and English as well. I read novels, plays, poetry, travelogue, biographies, autobiographies, etc.
Soze-Watan is an all-time favorite of mine.
You have to understand that life is a big tragedy that needs to be dealt with a huge dose of humor.
Art and cinema and literature are some of the ways.
Yes humor is essential. Even when I am playing a serious character or telling a serious story, I need to be aware of the possibility of humor in it. It just makes it special.
I am no expert! Each to its own.
Life is tough. We need to understand that. We need to learn to love and let live and vice Versa. I am not deliberately moralistic about anything.
That’s an existential question. I don’t know if I am equipped enough to answer that. All I can say is that if you do and think anything with love, honesty and diligence in your heart, 9 out of 10 times you will have hit it out of the park.
When I reached the set the first day of the shoot, the breakfast was not very appetizing as I am a vegetarian, and a little particular about what I eat. Our costume girl Salone came for my rescue and she got her Mom (they lived nearby) to send over some of the most delicious food I’ve had in a long time. I still can’t get over how tasty the food was from Salone’s mom’s kitchen.
