I’ve no clue
Why I go crazy for you,
A mere glimpse of you is enough
To make me go weak on my knees,
Every time I see you
I find a reason anew,
To fall in love with you again… and again… and again…

Love story of a lovely couple Ria and Rahul, who had neither met nor spoken to each other, yet were very much in love. Their journey in a Metro acted as a blessing in disguise as this was the only place where their eyes first met and also hearts! Could Ria and Rahul be soulmates, or was it a mere infatuation!

Introduction

The whole world had gone to sleep. Rahul, like a Night Owl, completely immersed in Ria’s thoughts, started penning a verse on his notepad.

Teri zulfon ke saayein mein
Khud ko kahi kho du,
Tere palkon mein doob jau
Yeh zindagi tere naam kar du !

And lo…..

“Have I become a writer?” he screamed ! Suddenly realising it was midnight and his roommates might wake up, he walked with a slow pace towards his bed, humming a song. Lost again in Ria’s dreams, Rahul dozed off to sleep. The following day was a Sunday and it was his usual routine to sleep like a rock on a holiday.

Introducing Rahul. The perfect TDH guy that every girl would dream about, as her life partner. Originally a resident of Mumbai, he had moved recently to Ashok Nagar, Delhi. After his internship, he had got a permanent job in an MNC. He was posted at Janak Puri. Being new to the city, the initial few days were a struggle for him to settle down. He had to find a paying guest accommodation and also get acquainted with the yellow, blue and magenta lines of Delhi Metro, as this was going to be his mode of transport to travel to and from his office.

Ria, a bold and beautiful girl, a typical Delhite, just loved to chase her dreams. She had lost her mother at a very young age. She stayed with her father and twin sibling in Sec 62, a prime location in Noida. She was pursuing her degree in a college at Karol Bagh. She was in the final year of her degree course and her last semester exams were fast approaching, post which she too had a job placement in hand. The location where she would be placed was still unknown though.

PART ONE

A few months ago Cupid had played a special card. Ria had her final semesters on and she was on her way to her college. She hurriedly got inside a Blue Line Metro from her place in Noida to head towards Karol Bagh. With books in hand, she somehow managed to secure a seat in the Metro train. Immediately she buried her head into her books and started browsing through the study material she was carrying. She began reading aloud to memorise, without realising that it was irking others who were there in her Metro compartment.

Coincidentally, Rahul too boarded the same Metro from Ashok Nagar. This girl who was reading aloud without giving a damn to others expressions caught his attention. He grinned, looking at the way Ria was immersed in her books. His attention, however, was soon drawn towards her golden silky hair that was let loose with glares placed on top. She was perfectly dressed in jeggings sported with casual tees, matching sandals and nail paint. Rahul thought to himself, “No wonder! She would have spent her entire time in grooming herself up on an exam day. Where is the time to study, poor girl!”

Rahul was trying to have a glimpse of her. Her beautiful face came to light only when she tied her hair to a pony, maybe because that was distracting her from studying. Rahul was spell bound when he noticed the pretty face hidden behind the golden silky hair. He couldn’t take off his eyes off her and stood there stunned.

Ria, unaware of her secret admirer, closed her books by now as her station was approaching. She then got busy in applying final touch ups to her pretty face. Rahul kept staring at her but Ria soon went towards the exit door hastily as her destination had arrived.

Rahul with mouth open wide, kept looking at her as he could not get enough of her. She remained in Rahul’s mind the whole day and he had decided to reach before time the next day so that he can get a better view of her. He anticipated her to be there at same time since he had guessed that she was a college student and must be a regular commuter.

On the following day Rahul was much fresh and was anxious to head towards office, his obvious interest being Ria. He had worn his favourite formal shirt, sprayed the entire deo bottle on him and was in Metro station before time so that he wouldn’t miss a glimpse of her. His eyes started looking out for her as she had boarded the same train yesterday. But to his disappointment, she was not to be seen and Rahul reached office with a hung face as if something terrible had happened in his life.

To his dismay, the next few days were utter disappointment as he could not find any traces of Ria anywhere near to the Metro station. He was not aware of the fact that Ria had her study leave and her next exam was scheduled to be only on Friday. For Rahul, this became a regular routine to look out for her and his eyes kept searching for Ria every day. There were days when he couldn’t find her and he used to become restless. This happened for three days at a stretch. This time Rahul had decided that the next time he found her, he would surely approach her to have a chat.

PART TWO

Soon it was Friday. Rahul thought he would miss his usual train for sure, as he had skipped his morning alarm. He had slept late last night as he had a night out with friends. He got ready at jet speed and somehow hurriedly managed to sneak inside his regular train and lo! What a sight. There she was. So unexpected. His heart started thumping hard when he heard her mesmerising voice as she was talking to her friend. Ria was dressed in red top and denim skirt, hair tied high to a pony, donning a bright red lipstick. Rahul was absolutely stunned by her flattering beauty.

As decided, he thought he would speak to her this time at any cost but he had no guts to do so. He thought of following Ria and alighted at Karol Bagh along with Ria, who then stood on the platform waiting for her friend. Taking this opportunity, Rahul went and stood near her and after gathering lots of courage, said, “Hi, I don’t know who you are, I have only seen you in Metro few times and felt we can be friends. Can we?”

He put his hand forward for a friendly shake. Ria gave a cold shoulder to him and a rather confused look. “Mr. I am sorry but who are you and what on earth made you think that we can be friends?” She just walked away, ignoring him. Rahul stood in silence not knowing what to do next. Confused, he proceeded to take the next Metro to his office.

Though Ria replied abruptly to Rahul, his thoughts kept haunting her the whole day. “Who could he be?” He appeared very decent to Ria and hence she had no plan to take any action against him. The next few days, journey in Metro went in silence as though they travelled in the same train, Rahul preferred to remain aloof after the arrogant behaviour of Ria. Though Rahul liked her dearly, he thought it would not be right on his part to approach Ria again against her will.

The day of final exam had approached. For Ria it would soon be her last day in college after which she would no more be travelling to her usual destination, Karol Bagh. After noticing Rahul in train for a few days, she too had developed a liking for Rahul now. Post the other day’s incident, she had observed that Rahul was not even looking at her nor tried to talk to her. She decided to speak to him on the last day of her exam and apologise for her rudeness.

Finally the day had arrived. It was Ria’s final exam, and her last day in college.

Ria and Rahul had boarded the same train same coach as usual. Rahul was looking dashing handsome in his sport-tees and casual jeans. He had by now stopped spying Ria though he very much liked her. Ria walked towards Rahul in the crowded compartment. When Rahul noticed this, he was taken aback. Ria extended her hand towards him for a handshake and said “Hi, this is Ria.” Rahul not knowing what was to happen next, how to act, was he dreaming, looked here and there in embarrassment. In a blabbering tone he finally managed to say, “Hi, am Rahul.”

Ria went further. “I’m sorry for my behaviour that day”. Rahul obviously had no grudges towards her and was ready to welcome her with open arms. Ria and Rahul exchanged smiles and this gave a kick to their friendship. With each passing day, their conversation gradually increased from few words to sentences and this continued through chats and calls.

One day Rahul messaged her asking if they could meet outside for a cup of coffee. Ria readily agreed. The meeting lasted for more than three hours. Their conversation went on and on, time flew, the meetings grew and before they could realise, their friendship had bloomed into love. Though both had developed a strong liking for each other, none of them had the courage to pour their heart out, fearing their friendship would get ruined.

PART THREE

One day after their usual meeting, Rahul reached home, threw his bag on the couch and was about to rest when his phone beeped. He knew it was Ria’s message as he had set a different ringtone for his love.

Ria: “Hi Rahul. Forgot to tell you today, there’s a wedding in our family on Sunday and you have to be there. OK.
Rahul : OK my highness, but what wedding and whose? You never told me about this when we met !
Ria : Oh now come on. I forgot baby. You just have to there. I don’t know anything else.
Rahul : OK my love, please send me the invitation card, I shall be surely be there for you.
Ria : No card, don’t you trust me? Be at Golden Castle, Sector 62, Noida sharp at 6.00 pm. I shall be waiting for you.
Rahul: Bye my love, anything for you, I trust you more than me. Love you.

He was expecting some reply from Ria but there was no revert. He thought she must have become busy with wedding preparations in her family, but then why had she not mentioned about this when they met.
It was Friday today and Rahul was eagerly waiting for Sunday to see her again.

It was Sunday. Rahul was restless since morning as there was no message or phone call from Ria since Saturday. Thinking she would be busy, he too did not bother her but her silence was giving him sleepless nights. Finally it was 5 p.m and he had to be there at Golden Castle at 6 p.m. Rahul dressed himself in an aqua color formal shirt that Ria had gifted him, blending with his well-fitted black suit and tie. He had styled his hair with gel and looked super handsome. He reached the wedding hall sharp at 6 pm as promised to Ria. He was nervous as he knew no one other than Ria. His eyes started looking out for Ria but she was nowhere to be seen. He finally moved a little further and entered the hall where other guests were seated. The hall seemed pretty full and Rahul’s eyes finally rested on the dais where the couple stood hand in hand holding a large bouquet.

Rahul felt the ground slipping under his feet when to his astonishment, he saw that the bride on the dais, who was dressed in pretty golden and maroon long gown was none other than Ria.

“How could she do this to me?” Suddenly a wave of thoughts flashed across, and Rahul felt he was being cheated. Probably this was why she had never mentioned to Rahul about this wedding and wanted to make a fool of him by inviting him to her wedding.

One of the worst things about trusting someone is really believing that everything they ever told you was the truth. From the “I love you”, “I need you”, “I care for you”, and that “you make me happy and complete”, to realize in the end you weren’t the only one they were telling that to! Rahul was in a terrible situation now. He stepped back towards the exit door to make a quick move and save himself from further embarrassment.

Rahul could not hold back his tears as he hurriedly ran outside, when he heard a voice calling out to him.

“Rahul”! Confused, he paused and looked back as he recognised Ria’s voice. Yes, it was Ria, but this time she had worn a lovely pink lehenga, which was Rahul’s favourite colour too. Before Rahul could say anything, Ria could sense his confusion and she came running towards him and hugged him. Rahul went speechless and couldn’t control his emotions. They both hugged each other when Ria clarified, “Rahul, she is my sister Kavya. Didn’t I tell you that I have a twin sister? She’s my twin and yes, we both look exactly the same.”

Rahul was so overwhelmed when he heard this that he hugged and kissed Ria like never before.

“Don’t you trust me Rahul, can I ever do this to you”? I just thought of playing a prank on you but I never knew you would get so serious.”

“I know Ria, but my mind stopped working when I saw you with another man”. Rahul went on. “I can’t see you with anyone else Ria, I can’t. Will you marry me?”

Epilogue

Rahul and Ria entered into wedlocks and enjoyed many years of marital bliss. They were blessed with a beautiful princess and they named her Rasika. As it happens in every household, over the years love deepens, the bond strengthens, but our feeling of marital satisfaction waxes and wanes. During the “bad times” there is more arguing and blaming, less sharing and touching, fewer moments of joy and appreciation. But what kept their marriage going was the realisation that there are things they can do to ensure better times than worse, to make riding out of the storms smoother and easier. Marriage is like a beautiful garden, it requires skill and constant attention. If tended to, it will thrive, but if neglected, it will wither and die.
