Part 1

Aman kept staring at the photo that was hung on the wall. He could not take his eyes off from the portrait, which was gifted to him by a well-wisher. He sensed as if the lovely eyes in the photo were longing to say something. The curly locks were such wherein he could bury himself, life-long. The face, it was the prettiest he had ever seen!

Aman and Sia had met for the first time in a family wedding. They were introduced to each other by a common friend. Though it wasn’t love at first sight, Sia’s eyes caught Aman’s tall and handsome personality. Aman too had noticed Sia but then they both did not indulge in any conversation then. Sia was a typical tomboyish girl, with short hair and she felt she would not be Aman’s type!

Few months passed and destiny brought them again in person, where they met in an event organised in the city during the Navratri festival. Aman’s elder brother was a choreographer by profession and he had got his team to perform for the event. Aman had accompanied his brother. Sia too had come along with her friend, who was to perform in the event.

Aman glanced at Sia from a distance and approached her. “Hi Sia, Aman here, we had met in Ankush’s wedding last year, remember?”

The event was in full swing and the sound of music loud. Sia could hardly hear what Aman said. She smiled and signalled Aman to move a little farther from the noisy place so that they could converse. They both exchanged smiles and Aman was wondering as to how to start the conversation. Sia initiated this time. “Aman, you don’t dance?”

“ Oh no, I’ll never get the hang of dance; I’ve got two left feet.” He dismissed. “But my brother is a choreographer and I have accompanied him here.” Both Sia and Aman both burst into laughter.

Sia instantly fell in love with Aman’s dimpled smile and Aman already had a crush on her from the time he had last seen her at the wedding. Her mesmerising voice felt like magic to his ears!

Since it was getting late, Sia chose to leave for home. Her friend had messaged her that she would be late and would take some more time. Being alone, Aman offered her a lift in his car as he was going to take the same route. They both exchanged phone numbers en route and bid goodbye to each other.

All of a sudden, Aman got startled by a huge cry of a baby and he came back to senses. He had forgotten for a while that his baby had woken up as he had dwelled into the past looking at Sia’s portrait!

Hey Gungun baby, I’m sorry, come to Papa, what happened to you, why are you crying?

In the meantime, the baby’s nanny walked inside the room hearing her cry.

‘She must be hungry Sir’, she said. ‘I shall feed her something and get her back. She will then be ready to play with you. Isn’t it Gungun darling!

Come on, let’s have some food and then play with Papa.’

Aman handed over the baby to her nanny as she was crying out of hunger. He waited patiently in his room till Gungun returned. His attention drew back again to the portrait and he dwelled in the past.

Part 2

Aman reached home after dropping Sia, but could not stop thinking about her. He immediately messaged her. “Hi Sia, Aman here, hope you have reached home safely.”

“Aman, thanks for the lift.” She added a smiley emoticon.

Aman had a smile on his face. “Thanks for your time today Sia. Take care, good night.”

“Good night.” The phone beeped.

Aman had fallen for her and so was Sia. But Sia was not inclined to any relationship, hence she chose not to express her liking for Aman. Next morning Sia found a message in her inbox, it was from Aman. “Good morning babes!”

“Babe and all, huh?” She felt happy to hear from him.

“Yes, I forgot to compliment you yesterday, you were looking fabulous.” Aman admitted.

Sia was now hiding a cheeky smile. “Thank you, Aman. I shall be late for office if I keep chatting. See ya, good day.”

Aman still asked, “Can we see today evening? Are you free?”

Sia was confused as to what to reply; she chose to remain silent and pretended to ignore the message. Aman felt if it was perhaps too early to ask Sia out for a date, he cursed himself for sending that message. The day passed with no messages from each other. At night, Aman sent a SORRY message to Sia, as he did not hear anything from her the entire day.

On reading his message, Sia felt like she should reply to Aman and not let him down as she too liked him in person, but was not ready for a relationship yet. “Aman, sorry could not respond to your message. Actually, I was tied up with work today. If you are fine, we can meet up tomorrow evening.”

Aman had planned a business trip tomorrow, but meeting Sia topped his list. “Ok as you say. See you at Regal Palace, at 6 pm tomorrow. You won’t have to travel much as it’s near your office.”

Sia was confused. “How do you know my office location? I mean we never discussed my work before.”

Aman had his tongue on his cheek and was trying to cover up. “Oh! Did you forget? You did make a mention while we met at the Navratri festival last time.”

Sia was not sure if she really did. “Ok, see you at Regal. Bye. Good night.”

This meeting of Aman and Sia was going to be a turning point in their lives as Aman had already made up his mind to propose Sia. Sia too was prepared to open her mind and be vocal on her concerns of being in a relationship.

By now, Gungun was back to her Papa and was in a very playful mood. She would rub her nose against his, kiss him on his cheeks and Aman would feel like on top of the world.

In no time, Sia fell asleep on Aman’s shoulders as he sang a lullaby for her. Aman too lied down near Sia, holding Gungun’s tiny hands and closed his eyes to dream of Sia again…

Part 3

Regal Palace, 6:00 pm

Aman was already at the decided spot 15 min early. He was excited to meet Sia and was keen to vent out his feelings for her. He had postponed his business trip to next week just to be with her. He waited for her with bated breath and as soon as she arrived, he had a huge smile on his face. Sia walked towards him gracefully, with a sheepish smile on her face. They both walked inside the restaurant and to her surprise, Aman had already reserved a table for both of them. It was decorated with flowers and a huge bouquet welcomed her inside. Sia could not understand for a moment, as to why was Aman doing all this.

“Why all this Aman?” She asked. “We are just casually meeting here, right?”

“Oh yes,” he said. “But for me it’s special.” Sia did not know how to react to Aman’s overwhelming gesture. “Sia, I’m happy you took time out for me. I want to confess something to you today.” He went on.

Sia expected this to happen sooner or later. Before Aman could say anything further, she asked, “Aman, what do you know about me?”

“I do not want to know anything about you, Sia.” Aman said. “I’m happy to accept you the way you are.” He was head over heels in love with Sia.

Sia passed a crooked smile. “It’s very easy to say all this Aman, but the reality is always hard to digest.”

Aman sighed. “Sia, you can be frank with me. I am ready to face any challenge for you.”

Sia removed a small device placed behind her ear. “Can you see this?”

Aman, listening carefully, nodded his head.

Sia placed it back, behind her ear. “Aman, if I remove this device from my ears, I would not be able to hear your confession ever.” Saying this, she broke down.

Aman was taken aback. “Sia, how did this happen, can you tell me?”

“When I was 5 years old,” Sia said, “I was struck with a viral fever and lost my hearing capacity up to 90 per cent. Since then I have been wearing hearing aids and have moved forward in life. I do communicate by lip reading. My speech too lost clarity and there are many words I cannot say properly. Half of the words I speak are not accurate but people close to me understand me very well. I try my best to be alert at all times so that I can make up for my minuses.”

Aman was dumbstruck on hearing this. He could not control his tears. “Sia, I never felt like you communicate incorrectly, and I understood every word you said now. Is that enough for me to be with you for the rest of my life? Sia, I respect and love you even more now. No woman other than you can win my heart. Can you be mine forever?”

Sia rose from her chair and hugged Aman tightly. Not only their eyes but their hearts also met this time! “Aman I want to see the world with you,” she said. Aman held her hands tightly into his and said, “Look into my eyes”.

This was the beginning of a beautiful love story of a lovely couple who had accepted each other without caring for their shortcomings.

Part 4

Aman woke from his short nap and looked at Gungun who was still fast asleep. So he too lied down near her holding her tiny hands. “I want our baby to have cute dimples like you”, Sia had once told Aman. “And I want my daughter to be pretty like you.” He said.

“What if it’s a son?” Sia had asked.

Gungun was a cute combination of Aman and Sia, with dimpled cheeks and pretty face.

Aman and Sia dated each other for five years before they got married. They seemed like the happiest and carefree couple on earth. Her hearing disability never came in the way of their love. Their bond only grew stronger with each passing day.

Friends and family would often envy them looking at their seamless love. Initially, it was not easy to convince their families since Aman’s family felt Sia was not the right bride due to her physical deformities. And Sia’s family felt Aman was not the right person as he was not as educated as Sia! Eventually, their families had to accept them seeing their unconditional love for each other. Soon Sia became the twinkle of every eye in Aman’s family.

Aman and Sia entered into wedlock and that day was the happiest for both of them. It was a dream come true for Aman, and for Sia. She was thankful for the best support system she had in her life’s journey. Like every newly married couple their life went on and they enjoyed the marital bliss. They were blessed with a baby after 4 years of marriage and they named her ‘Gungun’, a name which Sia couldn’t pronounce properly.

Gungun was a new challenge for Sia now. Having a baby in her arms was the most enchanting journey for her. At the same time, she feared her hearing disability could cause problems in her journey of motherhood. It used to happen at times that Gungun would wake up at night crying with hunger but Sia could not hear and it was mostly Aman who would hear the first cry!

But together they faced any challenge cheerfully. Sia was all eyes on Gungun, she would dress her up like a cute baby doll, take selfies with her, record her every move, her first walk, talk, smile and what not!

Gungun’s first birthday was on the way and Sia did not want to leave any stone unturned in her daughter’s birthday bash. She invited family and friends, fixed up the event management team, decided on the food menu for guests, return gifts, dress codes and all! And yes it was celebrated with great pomp. Friends and relatives from all over had gathered for the birthday bash! Sia had clicked loads of pics and videos and gathered a lot of memories of that day!

Part 5

After a few days of Gungun’s birthday, Siya complained of weakness. Everyone in the family felt that she had taken a lot of stress towards birthday party arrangements and now needs rest. Aman took off from his work to allow her to rest and take care of Gungun. The next day, Sia woke up with a fever and was feeling very unwell. Aman, without wasting any time rushed her to their family doctor. He was more worried about Sia’s health now as their doctor had asked her to be hospitalised to get the routine health check-up done. Sia was worried about Gungun and kept pestering Aman to take her home. “Aman, I am feeling better now, come let’s go home. I want to see Gungun.”

“Sia, it’s just a matter of one day, we can go home tomorrow.” He insisted. But somehow Sia was feeling very uncomfortable from within and could not hold back her tears. Aman could not see her cry and hugged her tight. “Love you, dear don’t worry, everything will be fine. We are just waiting for the reports, Doc will allow us home soon.”

The reports came the next day but did not turn out to be normal. Sia had developed falciparum malaria, a type of malaria which is rather uncommon, but doctors had assured she would get better with medication and with guaranteed rest. Aman did not want to take a chance and hence he decided to send Sia to her mom’s place for complete rest after her discharge from the hospital.

Sia expressed her displeasure. “No Aman, I cannot live without you or Gungun. I won’t go to my mom’s place.”

“Darling, you need rest and you won’t find it here as you would be totally occupied with Gungun.” Aman said.

“Ok, then allow Gungun to come with me, my mom will take care of her, but at least she would be in front of my eyes.”

Aman kissed her in the forehead and packed their bags to drop them at her mom’s place the next day. The whole night passed restlessly for Aman, worrying about Sia. That was the last night when the three were together. Sia went to her mom’s place the next morning. She was given complete attention by her parents and Gungun too didn’t trouble her. Few days passed with Aman and Sia missing each other and exchanging messages through chats. Sia wanted to come back to Aman, and he had promised that he would come to fetch her in a day or two.

The following night Sia complained of restlessness, her mom gave her the night dose pills and asked her to sleep without worrying about Gungun. That night, Sia skipped sending a good night message to Aman and slept off. Aman had later sent her a message but Sia didn’t read it. In the morning, Sia’s mom found her in deep sleep. She slowly held Gungun, who was lying next to Sia, playing on her own with eyes wide open.

Since it was now time for Sia to have her morning dose of pills, her mom came over to wake her up. Since Sia does not wear her hearing aid while sleeping, she came forward and shook Sia but she was lying cold and in an unconscious state. Scared, Sia’s mom called Aman home immediately, who rushed in along with a doctor. But it was too late! Sia had suffered a stroke in her sleep.

For Aman, his little world came to a standstill, he stood shattered and his dreams collapsed like a pack of cards. So many questions stood before him, “What will I do without Sia? Who will take care of Gungun? How will I bring her up alone?”

Aman hugged Sia tight and cried like a baby that day. There was no one who could pacify Aman, nor themselves.

Gungun had woken up from her sleep by now and was trying to pat Aman who was holding her tiny hands and had fallen asleep near her. She started making loud noises in her baby language, calling out Aman, “Dada, Dada!” She crawled into the other room to reach out to her grandparents and nanny who was busy in the kitchen.

“Gungun, what are you doing here, I thought you were asleep.” Her granny said. “Where is Papa?” She signalled her hand into the bedroom where her Papa was lying. Her granny thought of not disturbing Aman as he had not had a sound sleep for a long time, since the loss of Sia.

It was getting darker now and Aman was still in his room. However tired he was, Aman never slept for so long, so his mother knocked his room and called for him. Aman had gone in an eternal sleep into the fairyland with Sia in his dreams.

Epilogue

Today Gungun, though unaware of her parents’ whereabouts, is happy with her family. She was adopted legally by Aman’s elder brother and his wife who were childless. They took good care of Gungun as her own parents would, and left no stone unturned in her upbringing.

On one hand, everyone was feeling shocked and sorry for what happened with Gungun but were equally astonished by the true love of Aman and Sia, where even death could not take them apart. But God had a plan for everyone and everything was put in the right place. Do any of us have any say in front of the Supreme Lord!

Such is Life, very unpredictable! We never know what the next moment holds for us. So let’s live for the moment, forget and forgive the past, and not hold any regrets. Let us be a winner and be a true inspiration like Aman and Sia who faced every challenge that came their way smilingly. Believe in God, he sure has something better in store for all of us.

A beautiful love story of a couple, Aman and Sia, that seemed like a fairy tale to all. Everyone who was witness to their love knew this was the perfect couple who were mad for each other, yes Mad!! But like all good things don’t last forever, their love too got caught by an evil eye maybe! Their destiny took them to a path which was beyond anyone’s control. It was getting darker now and Aman was still in his room. However tired he was, Aman never slept for so long, so his mother knocked his room and called for him. Aman had gone in an eternal sleep into the fairyland with Sia in his dreams.
