I woke up in the middle of the night with a scary dream. I didn’t know then, that this dream would help me understanding my relationship much better. In the morning, my
mother came in to my room. ”Good morning, Rhea!”

The time was approximately 8 am. I woke up and wished her back. But I was continuously thinking about the nightmare. No one should face this situation in their life!

My mother called me down for breakfast. When Iwent down, she found me tensed. “What happened, Rhea?” She asked.
“Mom, I am tired of fulfilling yours and Dad’s expectations. I have been the topper in my school right from 1st grade till now, but I can’t tell you about 12th! I know it is a very important examination of my life but….” I couldn’t speak more.

My mother heard carefully. She may have felt that there is something behind her words. She asked patiently, “What is the reason?” I didn’t reply. I couldn’t.

”Take your time and then tell me,” she advised.

In the evening, I came and sat down next to my mother. “Mom! It was a nightmare. I saw, in a very important phase of my life, I have lost my scores. I passed but only with 61%. I was depressed… I felt as if I have lost my dream of becoming
a successful doctor from India’s best medical school. Not only my dream, I feel I have violated your confidence and trust….” I spoke everything at one go.
My mother just smiled. ”Rhea, parents never feel bad when their children had worked hard and yet they lose. They feel bad when their children don’t try.” She hugged me. ”Have faith in God and do your best, Rhea.”

It was a silly dream. It came and went. But it helped me in understanding my relationship with my mother.
